Huston Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Track & Field/Cross Country Team

first_imgDES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University track and field standout Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) has added another honor to her resume by being selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.Members of the team are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing. The Academic All-District selection is the second of Huston’s career and adds to her impressive list of athletic and academic accomplishments during her senior season.On the track, she has broken four school records this season, won an MVC Championship in the 5,000 meters during the outdoor season and finished second in the 1,500 meters. In addition to earning All-MVC honors in those two events, she also earned All-MVC honors during the indoor season in the distance medley relay and during the cross country season.In the classroom, Huston graduated from Drake this month with a 3.98 cumulative grade point average as a biology and environmental science major. She is also a three-time MVC Elite 18 award winner, an award given annually to a competitor with the highest GPA at each of the MVC Championships. She won that award during the cross country and outdoor track seasons this year and the indoor track season in 2015.In addition she has been named the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week six times this season.Huston is currently competing in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters at the NCAA West Preliminary in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships to add to her legacy at Drake.Print Friendly Versionlast_img
